These are some of my works since joining Elgin Artists in 2015.
I have been a casual life drawer in charcoal and pastel for some decades but am always endeavouring to branch into other subjects and mediums.
I am grateful to the many artists who have given me guidance on working in different paint mediums. I had some useful landscape tuition in gouache and oils with Gary Long in 2015 at the historic St Ives School of Painting in magical St Ives, Cornwall. I also did some landscape painting with Gary in Nigel Konstam’s Verrochio art centre in Casole d’Elsa, a small hill town in Tuscany in 2016. I made a foray into watercolour in 2017 after some helpful teaching by Ron Muller at the Elgin Artists Studio. I also undertook a class in still life oil painting with Gary Long and another in abstract colour painting with Iain Robertson, both at the St Ives School of Painting in Cornwall in April 2018. In late 2019, I did a brief but inspiring landscape course in oils with Louise Balaam at the New School of Art in Lewes, Sussex. Most recently I did two short courses at the St Ives School in 2022, focusing on landscapes, with Tom Rickman and Ilker Cinarel.
I visited Japan in 2018 with others of the Elgin Artists Group. While I did only a small amount of sketching, I came back with some ideas for taking my abstract work further.
I have continued life drawing over the years with various groups. I exhibited as part of a group exhibition at Roar Gallery in Fitzroy many years ago. More recently I have exhibited work with the Elgin Artists group and have had work exhibited at Elysium Gallery in Hawthorn.
