Following a great interest in visual art over the years, I first began to paint with a group in Airey’s Inlet. From there I joined the Emerald Hill Art Group in South Melbourne, meeting weekly, and also since 2016 with the Elgin Artists. This is a happy, diverse, talented group of people with whom to be involved, and I enjoy all activities the group provides, both to paint, and to socialise.
Each year I try and spend a little time “en plain air”, preferably using watercolour, but on occasion, as I did earlier this year in Central Australia, with oils. I enjoy the different challenges presented by both these mediums and have been switching between the two, depending upon the subject matter I am trying to paint. Also dependent upon whether I am in the studio or outdoors.
I am trying to become more free in my style, and also to be a little more abstract in what I do.
I feel we are all so lucky, to have this creative pursuit to embrace: there is so much history, and a huge body of work from those before us, to wonder at and learn from, and perhaps, try and emulate. Always the challenge.
I have participated in life-drawing classes, and painting in different regional locations each year with the Elgin artists, as well as doing many workshops around different parts of Australia, including West and Central Australia, Queensland, the Flinders Ranges, plus Tasmania with different artist teachers.
